When commenting on likely attacks on Venezuelan territory and on China’s position on the unilateral military actions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated on Wednesday that China opposes the use or threat of using force in international relations and rejects any interference in Venezuela’s internal affairs by external forces under any pretext. Lin’s comments were made in response to a question raised by a Venezuelan reporter at Wednesday’s press conference regarding the announcement by the US on Tuesday that it had sunk a vessel in waters near the coast of Venezuela, killing six people. Also, the US has deployed warships and a nuclear submarine in the Caribbean, and Venezuela has also activated new comprehensive defense zones, according to the reporter.
China supports the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and the declaration of the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on the establishment of a nuclear-weapons-free zone, and opposes any actions that undermine the peace and stability of Latin America and the Caribbean, Lin said.
According to the spokesperson, China consistently advocates for enhanced international cooperation to combat transnational crime. However, China opposes the US’ unilateral so-called “law-enforcement” actions against vessels of other countries that exceed reasonable and necessary limits. We urge the US to engage in normal law enforcement and judicial cooperation through relevant bilateral and multilateral legal frameworks, stated Lin.
