The Chinses side firmly opposes any form of official interaction between US and Taiwan region and urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, handling the Taiwan question with utmost prudence, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
Guo’s remarks were made in response to media question regarding head of so-called “external affairs” authority of Taiwan region Lin Chia-lung’s recent claim that they are not worried about the US would abandon Taiwan, saying the relationship remains stable.
Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The greatest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits at present is Taiwan secessionist activities and the indulgence and support of external forces, Guo said.
The DPP authorities have stubbornly relied on foreign forces to pursue “independence,” using various occasions to spread the fallacy of “Taiwan independence” and separatist rhetoric, attempting to distort facts and mislead public opinion, Guo said.
Their actions are despicable and shameful, and their schemes are doomed to fail, the spokesperson added.
No matter what the DPP authorities say or do, they cannot alter the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is part of China’s territory, nor can they stop the historical trend of China’s inevitable and eventual reunification, Guo stressed.
