“I will answer your question with the same format,” said China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press conference on Wednesday in response to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s remark during the Senate campaign event that none of his Senate candidates are applauding China or cheering when the Philippine vessels get hit by Chinese water cannons.
Guo said no Chinese citizen would agree that China should not make a legitimate and lawful response when the Philippines engages in infringement and provocation, commenting on the inquiry about the remarks of Marcos, who was campaigning for his Senate candidates on Tuesday, that “None of them are applauding China, cheering when we get fired with water and our coast guard gets hit.”
Guo said China has always opposed exploiting the South China Sea issue for political manipulation.
