When asked to comment on a recent article published by the US Time magazine, in which an expert from the think tank “Defense Priorities” directly criticized Lai Ching-te’s “reckless” leadership for making Taiwan island “the world’s most dangerous flashpoint” and called on US president to rein in the “evidently reckless leader,” Peng Qing’en, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday that “we have noted that recently an increasing number of foreign experts, scholars, and international media have expressed concern over the situation in the Taiwan Straits and have openly criticized Lai’s provocative ‘Taiwan independence’ actions and rhetoric.”
The current situation in the Taiwan Straits is complex and severe, fundamentally because the Lai administration refuses to acknowledge the 1992 Consensus, which reflects the One-China principle, stubbornly adhere to a “Taiwan independence” separatist stance, and continuously collude with external forces to engage in provocations aimed at pursuing “independence.” Lai is an unequivocal “destroyer of cross-Straits peace,” a “creator of Taiwan Straits crises,” and a true “troublemaker,” the spokesperson said.
